Machines and ideas

Tuesday November 17th, 2009 , h.20,30

Technical activities have been carried out for millennia indipendently from science: the wheel, the screw or the rudder have been invented and refined without any theoretica conceptualization.
In more modern times it is not always science that comes before technology: thermodynamics and electromagnetism are examples of the complex relationship between science and technics.
Nowadays technology, particularly information tecnology, has a strong role in our everyday life: how much it is still linked to "traditional" scientific knowledge? How much is science guided by technology and vice versa? Why did some authors propose to use the word "bricolage" to describe both processes and products of new technology? What is the future of science and technology?
